Big Cypress National Preserve

Photographic Story Being out in the swamps as a new day is creating itself is one of the most beautiful feelings. I had wanted to create an image that reflected that feeling, so in order to do that I used three different photographic images. The main image was taken early in the morning in Everglades National Park. The final image was hand-painted on my computer using photoshop and is a combination of three different images – all in the sky. By combining the three different images I was able to show the textures in the swamp even though they were photographed in very soft light, while also revealing stars in the morning sky. I have seen this happen in real life, but have never been able to capture it with a camera. The Art of Hand Painting Black and White Photographs Photographed with a Sony digital camera and instead of oil painting with Q-tips and cotton balls, Niki was able to paint using Photoshop. Changing from the old-fashioned way of doing her art, to the new ‘fashion’ of using technology was challenging, but she’s enjoying getting back to her own personal expression. Archival Print Making Niki’s open edition gicleé artwork is printed on Sunset Bright Velvet Rag matte finish paper using eight archival inks. A state-of-the-art Epson Stylus Pro printer creates deep, rich dark values that hold subtle detail in the shadows as well as bright vivid colors that are truly tropical.
